Ready to Rock

Alright folks ! The journey is now getting interesting... I have drawn a plan of my first design model and next week I will be building it to run my first test. I consider this to be the fun part of the project. I have to admit that I’m actually excited and inspired to build and test it out ! For those who would like to attempt the build: I am including an approximate price list of materials that I have used up to now. Keep in mind, I will be experimenting with other materials that may not be listed here. I will keep you updated on the tweaks I make along the way. Here are a few websites that inspired my build:  The Simplest Motor StudySmarter Simple Motor   I hope you join me next week to see how things are coming along !

Welcome to my blog: Stepping into the unknown !

Hi and welcome to my first every blog and Genius Hour project ! This experience is allowing me to step into the unknown in many ways. I am very slowly discovering the Blog platform and I am hoping this gets to be more comfortable and easy as the weeks go by. It was interesting to have to ask myself "What are my passions?" and "What am I curious about?" These questions led me to my interests in snowmobiles and motorcycles, which then led me to my Genius Hour question : How can I build a simple electric motor by using easy to find items? Looking forward to taking you on this journey into the unknown !

The options are endless !

I have been researching, and apparently, there are a LOT of options to make a simple motor with easy to find items. The only difficulty I had this week was figuring out which design model to attempt. Instead of copying a design model from a website, I decided to amalgamate multiple ideas to make it my own model. I have added a picture of my materials that I bought at Dollarama and through Amazon. Here a few questions I thought I would test out: If I use more windings in the rotor, how will it affect the motor? How will it affect my motor if I add another magnet to the opposite side of the rotor? What results will I get if I increase or decrease the voltage supply ? What would happen if I reversed battery polarity on the motor? My next step will be drawing my first model attempt.... Buckle up !
